The biggest difference between glass and plastic for greenhouses is not the price, but the productio

In the process of greenhouse development, plastic greenhouses or glass greenhouses have always been the choices faced by some practitioners who are new to the industry, but the advantages and disadvantages of both are very distinct. Next, we will mainly make a comparison from several major aspects.

Disadvantages of plastic greenhouses: poor light transmittance, serious aging, weak disaster resistance, short lifespan, etc. For glass greenhouses, which are superior to plastic greenhouses, the upgrade is to get rid of all the disadvantages of plastic greenhouses. Glass greenhouses are iterated mainly from multiple aspects such as light transmittance, disaster resistance, production capacity, and lifespan;

Point 1: ultra-high light transmittance

The basic light transmittance of greenhouse scattering glass is 91.5%, and the light transmittance attenuation is less than 1%. Plastic will turn yellow after one and a half years, and the light transmittance will drop seriously. The coated anti-reflective glass has a light transmittance of 98.5%, which is the highest light transmittance of standard glass currently used in greenhouses.

Point 2: longest lifespan

Compared with plastic, the lifespan of scattering glass is currently known to be more than 15 years, and the light transmittance is attenuated by less than 1%.

Point 3: Disaster resilience

In terms of disaster resistance, glass > plastic > film. The disaster resistance of the glass greenhouse can withstand heavy snowfall of level 5-6, and its resistance to hail is even more significant.

The third point: scattering characteristics

The scattering characteristics of greenhouse scattering glass are unique characteristics of current agricultural greenhouse glass. Diffusing glass can ensure uniform lighting inside the greenhouse. When a beam of light shines into the interior of the greenhouse, the light is dispersed through the scattering glass without reducing the light flux, thereby reducing the temperature of the leaf surface.

Especially in summer, when the light is too strong and the leaf temperature is high, the plants will stop growing. The emergence of scattering glass can effectively reduce the temperature of the leaf surface by about 5°C. Compared with materials without scattering properties, crops can grow in the greenhouse for about 3 hours longer every day, from 11 noon to 1 pm.

Point 4: Hydrophilicity

Hydrophilicity is also a unique characteristic of greenhouse scattering glass. Hydrophilicity is mainly used to prevent dewdrops condensed on the glass on the top of the greenhouse from dripping and damaging seedlings or flowers. The key point of hydrophilicity is that during the seedling and fruit flowering and pollination periods, the water droplets condensed on the roof are prevented from dripping and the plant pollination rate is reduced.

Point 5: Security

Safety is our main consideration. Currently, all the glass used in agricultural greenhouses is tempered glass. The main reason is to protect those working inside the greenhouse. Prevent the glass from exploding and injuring workers and crops.

Point 6: Production Increase Characteristics

China Jingpeng Global Co., Ltd. once conducted an experiment to compare anti-reflective glass with ordinary ultra-white tempered glass. The total increase in greenhouse productivity achieved by anti-reflective glass reaches more than 36%.

In addition to the above six points, the difference between glass and plastic in greenhouses is that in terms of overall greenhouse operation investment, glass greenhouses are more durable and efficient than plastic greenhouses;

Even if it is just a subset of all the advantages, if you realize that a glass greenhouse does have absolute advantages. The light transmittance of Yuhua greenhouse glass can be as high as 99%, and there are 8 haze options including 5/10/20/30/40/50/70/75. Yuhua® also supplies glass to greenhouse project companies such as Havecon, Kubo and Van Der Hoeven. For more information, please contact us at overseas@hnyxlc.com.
